"Birmingham Sunday was a band from Nevada consisting of Ward Johns, Debbie Parks, John Kvam, Jean Haim, Joe Lachu and Phil Gustafson. Not much is known about the band and its members, but [Message from Birmingham Sunday] was originally released as a test press in 1968 on the All-American Record label. Although the band performs a variety of styles, the music on this album is predominantly folk-based, psychedelic pop sound with strong vocal harmonies. The singer alternates male and female vocal leads with a background wall of sounds containing guitars, wind instruments, swirling organs, and synthesizers. The entire album clocks in at just over 27 minutes, but it's a delightful piece of late-'60s psychedelia. The CD itself has good overall sound quality, but some sounds seem to fade in some songs, probably due to the quality of the master tapes.
